This outstanding painting is the fifth and final piece that Paul painted for the Pelé Series, it is also the largest, out of the five.
In celebration of Pelé’s 75th Birthday and his lifetime of achievements, Paul Kenton painted five pieces of art in honour of this legend; his creativity, his life and his incredible sporting career.

A map of New York provided the start point for this unique work. Paul has used the actual map as his canvas, working into it with his loose and painterly style with strong black inks and subtle metallic tones, the detail and textures of the map underpinning the whole scene.

As an avid surfer, Paul has a strong affinity with the sea and it’s waves. In ‘Ice Waters’, Paul emphasises his personal connection with the water by use of an imposing close-up view of the waves, as if painted from the perspective of a surfer. Paint marks and splashes are applied spontaneously to capture a sense of the power and spectacular energy and rhythm of the water.

In this dramatic seascape, Paul has painted the water with such convincing fluidity and movement, that the paint itself has almost become the sea on the canvas. The Audi Auto Union Type C 1937 developed in excess of 500bhp from its v16 cylinder engine, winning Grand Prix and set several world speed records in the process.
