The fluid, meandering colours of the Thames meet the hard, man-made edges of the City, realised in the corroded, porous surface textures of weathered steel

Black floating frame
The organic nature of rust, in combination with Paul’s own distressed strokes in the metallic surface give this piece a truly unique character that can be appreciated from multiple distances and perspectives. The macro-like detail that you can observe in the warm oxidisation patterns, alongside Paul’s detailed interweaving of colour is endlessly alluring. Leaving out fine details, Paul has focussed solely on the strong curve of the River Thames, with the distinct silhouette of Tower Bridge firmly situating the piece in London.
I wanted to juxtapose the organic, fluid movement of the water, with the exactness of the urban, industrial edges of London
My engineering background drives my fascination with the reaction of paints to the various metals and media. I'm always looking to use the unique properties of each metal to my advantage with each piece.
