“Chromatic Capital” reimagines the London skyline as a radiant mosaic of colour and texture. Sweeping across the canvas, the Thames winds through a fractured cityscape, where landmark silhouettes emerge from a sea of layered marks, metallic glints, and bold, expressive gestures. The painting bursts with motion, like the city itself, with shifting light, kaleidoscopic skies, and the hum of urban life all captured in Paul’s signature impasto style. Beneath the composition lies a hidden history. The canvas originally served as a working floor covering in Paul’s studio, collecting the excesses and offcuts of his creative process over time. With each layer of paint underfoot, it gained its own accidental palette. Repurposed as the foundation for this piece, it carries echoes of past works, even bearing subtle impressions from Paul’s Doc Martens. It’s a surface shaped by the rhythms of painting and walking, linking the final image back to the streets that inspired it.
