A bus surges out of the frame as traffic and pedestrians thread down a broad city street, the clock tower rising pale and certain in the distance. Kenton works in pure monochrome here, letting ink bleed across the sky and charcoal sketch the rush of motion, headlights and reflections streaking the wet tarmac. Buildings crowd in on either side, half-dissolved in the damp morning light.
The effect is a city caught mid-stride, hurried, grey and wholly alive.
This is an original ink and charcoal painting on Indian paper, part of the Artisan Paper Collection, float mounted with a black frame, by Paul Kenton.
