“Puddles at Piccadilly”

Ornate facades loom through a curtain of rain, their windows and balustrades dissolving into runs of wet ink and shadow. Street lamps cast warm haloes over a glistening pavement, and figures gather indistinctly beneath a railing as the city blurs into reflection. Faint touches of red glow through the gloom, hinting at life behind the deluge.
Watercolour, gouache, charcoal and ink are layered and allowed to bleed, giving the scene its atmospheric, half-remembered quality.
