Cookie policy

This page explains the cookies and similar technologies we use on paulkenton.com, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers how we handle your personal data more broadly.

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. Cookies let a site remember things between pages and visits — such as keeping you signed in or remembering what is in your basket. We group the cookies we use into two kinds: essential cookies that the site needs to work, and analytics and advertising cookies from Google that we only use if you agree.

Your choices

When you first visit, a consent banner asks whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. Essential cookies are always on because the site cannot function without them; Google’s cookies stay off until you accept. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the site footer. It takes effect straight away, and if you withdraw consent we also delete the Google cookies already set on your device.

Essential cookies

These keep the site secure and working properly, so they cannot be switched off. They include:

  • Session & sign-in — keep you securely signed in to your account as you move around the site.
  • Basket — remember the items you have added so your basket survives between pages.
  • Security (CSRF) — protect forms and checkout against cross-site request forgery.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — a privacy-friendly check that protects our sign-up, contact and commission forms from bots, without the puzzles of traditional CAPTCHAs.
  • Preferences — remember your choices, such as light or dark theme and your preferred display currency.

Analytics & advertising (Google)

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, and where things could work better — and Google Ads to measure whether our adverts lead to visits and orders.

These Google tags load on every visit using Google Consent Mode. Until you accept, they do not set or read cookies on your device. Instead they send Google limited, cookie-free signals — for example that a page was viewed or an order was placed, with basic technical details such as your browser type — which Google uses in aggregate to estimate visits and conversions. Advertising click identifiers are redacted. If you accept, the tags can also use cookies to recognise repeat visits and connect visits to our adverts; if you reject or later withdraw consent, they go back to working without cookies.

You can read more in Google’s guides to how Analytics safeguards data and how consent mode works.

Payment & checkout cookies

When you reach checkout, our payment providers may set their own cookies that are necessary to process your payment securely and to prevent fraud. Stripe (card payments) and, if you choose it, Klarna (payments) set these as part of taking your payment. Their use of cookies is governed by their own policies.

The map of works (OpenFreeMap)

Our map of works is drawn in your browser from map data by OpenFreeMap, built from OpenStreetMap. It loads only on that page and sets no cookies. Your browser fetches the map’s tiles and lettering from OpenFreeMap, so it receives your IP address and basic technical details such as your browser type, as with any site you load something from. OpenFreeMap uses no tracking and keeps no IP addresses in its access logs (see OpenFreeMap’s privacy policy).

Managing cookies in your browser

As well as our consent banner, you can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working. Most browsers explain how here:
