“Flatiron Downpour”

Rain streaks down through an electric-blue night as the unmistakable wedge of the Flatiron rises into the storm. Yellow cabs glow against the wet asphalt, their reflections bleeding into pools of crimson, teal and gold, while a lit street clock and shop signs flicker through the downpour. It is the city at its most cinematic and alive.
In gouache, Kenton builds rich, saturated colour and luminous reflection, the falling rain caught in flecks of pale light across the canvas of the street.
This is an original gouache painting on Indian paper, part of the Artisan Paper Collection, float mounted with a black frame, by Paul Kenton.
