“Red Umbrellas”

76 x 152.5 cm | 30 x 60 in

Framed Dimensions (approx.): 82 x 158.5 cm | 32.5 x 62.5 in

"Red Umbrellas" is a wide, cinematic street scene set in a rain-soaked New York, crowds of figures moving across a wet intersection beneath a sea of black umbrellas, with just a handful of red ones cutting through the monochrome. The city around them is rendered in cool greys and blacks, the neon signage and reflections in the tarmac providing the only warmth in an otherwise stripped-back palette. Painted in oil on aluminium as a 60 x 30 inch original, the metal ground adds a natural sheen to the wet street below, reinforcing the atmosphere of a city caught mid-downpour.
