“Cassette Tape”
48" x 48"
Mixed Media on Aluminium
Original Painting
Black floating frame
I will always remember travelling to Indonesia back in the late 80s, with my walkman and favourite collection of cassette tapes in hand. During this trip, on a ferry to the Island of Comodo, I listened to to one of Enya’s tracks which perfectly reflected the mood around me. It was one of those moments in life which will stay with me forever.
This piece is a homage to my fond memories of a more physical form of music. There was something so satisfying about the click and whir as the cassette played, and reading the lines on the cassette sleeve. I painted this piece using a variety of materials, including oils, crayons, acrylics and resin, with lots of exposed aluminium to bounce off surrounding light. In true 80s style, splashes of neon colour melt over the metal and cassette, emulating the bold and daring hues of the decade.
