“Stretched Horizons”

Rain has turned the avenue to glass. A figure crosses the bright stripes of a zebra while another shelters beneath a single crimson umbrella, their reflections smearing into the wet tarmac. Beyond, the city dissolves into a silvered grey distance pricked by amber and red lights, the whole scene hushed and cinematic.
Working almost entirely in monochrome, Kenton lets those few sparks of colour carry the emotion, the charcoal and ink bleeding softly to suggest mist and movement.
This is an original watercolour, gouache, charcoal and ink on Indian paper, part of the Artisan Paper Collection, float mounted with a black frame, by Paul Kenton.
