Times²

Initiated by creating an original cityscape painting on sheet aluminium, this piece presents a futuristic vision of Times Square, New York, where Bitcoin and Ethereum imagery now dominate the zeitgeist. In this new imagined world where cryptocurrency has taken over, the ‘creator’ can be seen painting the Ethereum emblem on the predominant screen. Meanwhile, taxi lights glimmer through Manhattan’s urban landscape, whilst the scene glitches intermittently, perhaps representing the perpetual instability involved.

To create this piece, the physical 30” x 30” (76 x 76cm) oil painting was digitised using a Leica M (Type 240) rangefinder camera, paired with the Leica Summilux-M 1:1.4/35 lens for superlative colour depth and image quality, preserving the tones and textures of the source painting. It was then enhanced and expanded upon through digital manipulation and motion to create the final NFT.
