Ghettoblaster

Capturing a sense of the immense sound and energy of the iconic 1980s Ghettoblaster

The Retro Collection by Paul Kenton, UK contemporary artist, retro inspired original paintings

Ghettoblaster

48″ x 48″

Mixed Media on Aluminium

You were the coolest kid on the block if you had a two foot wide Ghettoblaster perched on your shoulder, blasting out classic hip-hop tunes. I always remember watching the first robotics and breakdancing in the 1980s and being fascinated by these new kinds of dance. I was more of a robotics man than a breakdancer, and have some fun memories of doing robotics to Kraftwerk and Herbie Hancock in a burgundy shirt and tie with a white glove like Michael Jackson! This painting celebrates the Ghettoblaster as a tool for enjoying, sharing and mixing the latest music, which played such a big part in 1980s culture. Painted with lashings of vivid colour, this piece exudes a sense of the immense sounds and heavy beats the Ghettoblaster provided.
