A wooden boat lies moored in the glassy stillness of a narrow Venetian canal, the water glowing teal and gold beneath shuttered palazzo walls. Warm light spills from a doorway and a distant lamp draws a thread of amber across the surface, the buildings leaning close overhead in tones of rust and ochre. The whole passage is hushed, secretive, lit only by the last of the day.
It is Venice at its most intimate, a quiet corner away from the crowds.
