Beneath the dark span of an elevated track, a wet street glows with reflected colour. A pub sign burns warm above two parked cars, while ornate lamps and a doorway cast pink, amber and violet light streaking across the rain-soaked road toward the viewer.
Painted on black paper, the gouache lets every highlight sing out of the darkness, the night doing the work of shadow. The mood is hushed, atmospheric and richly lit.
This is an original gouache on black paper painting, part of the Artisan Paper Collection. Float mounted with a black frame, it is signed by Paul Kenton.
