"Taxi Canyon" looks straight down a New York street canyon, skyscrapers rising steeply on either side as two yellow cabs push through the traffic below, their colours reflected across the wet road in loose strokes of gold and red. The palette mixes warm browns, oranges and yellow against patches of cool blue sky visible at the top of the composition, the heavily worked surface giving the buildings a real sense of mass and texture. At 30 x 74cm, this original mixed media on board is a compact piece, but the tall format does a good job of capturing the hemmed-in scale of midtown Manhattan.
