An avid surfer for over 35 years, Paul has travelled the world in search of the perfect wave, experiencing the most unruly of oceans along the way. Through his original seascape paintings, Paul conveys the immense energy, power and motion of the water, whilst also portraying its unique ability to offer calm and relief. Emerging through many translucent layers of liquid resin, Paul’s seascapes emulate the sheer depth of the ocean. The paintings flow and glisten like water, as glossy resin swirls and blends over the aluminium glimmering beneath.
I'm always looking to use the unique properties of each metal to my advantage with each piece.
Paul’s affinity with the extremes of the natural world is also explored in his original mountainscape paintings. Paul has scaled some of the highest mountains, blown away by the incredible light, exposed ruggedness and monumental scale. Reaching such foreign heights allows Paul to capture distance in his paintings like never before, as far away mountains fade into the horizon. To realize these awe-inspiring skylines, thick oil paint is sculpted to form dramatic snow-topped peaks and scraped across the aluminium to portray jagged mountain terrain.
