Description

Autumn Leaves is a large-scale immersion into a birch woodland at the peak of autumn colour. Slender white and black trunks thread through a canopy and carpet of glowing orange and gold, the composition drawing the eye deep into the tangle of branches rather than out toward a horizon.

Worked in mixed media on framed boxed canvas at a substantial 186 x 247 cm, hints of shimmering metallic paint catch the light filtering down through the branches, giving the woodland floor a flickering, sun-dappled quality. The scale of the piece makes it a genuine feature work, built to hold a room.

Part of Paul Kenton's Landscapes Collection, Autumn Leaves reflects his ongoing plein air practice — smaller outdoor studies translated here into a large, richly worked studio painting.
