Description

Midtown Silver looks straight down a rain-washed New York street as it recedes towards a bright, hazy heart of the city. Skyscrapers rise on either side in cool silver-greys, warmed here and there by deep reds and browns, while a scatter of yellow and blue lights flickers through the wet air.

Paul builds the scene almost entirely with the palette knife, dragging thick, vertical strokes of pale grey and white down the canvas so the street and its reflections shimmer with movement. The muted, silvery palette gives the city a quiet, atmospheric mood, caught somewhere between dusk and a passing shower.

An original palette-knife painting, Midtown Silver measures 61 x 45.5 cm.
