Description

Bridge Nocturne frames the Manhattan Bridge at night, viewed from street level with dark buildings closing in on either side and the bridge's tower and cables lit against a sky of deep blue and violet. It's a quiet, moody composition, the bridge structure picked out crisply against the night colour.

The wet street below mirrors the scene in broken fragments of light — whites, blues and warm ambers — giving the lower half of the composition as much interest as the bridge itself. This original, worked in mixed media and metallics on board at 37 x 68cm, carries a heavily textured surface that rewards close inspection.

Part of Paul Kenton's New York Collection, Bridge Nocturne is a closely observed, atmospheric portrait of the city after dark.
