Chrysler Drift

A New York avenue dissolves into soft grey mist, its buildings rising like dark cliffs on either side while traffic crawls along the wet, pale-lit street below. At the heart of the composition the slender, tiered spire of the Chrysler Building breaks through the haze, anchoring the whole scene in a single unmistakable landmark.

Paul Kenton keeps to a smoky, near-monochrome palette of sepia, charcoal and cream, letting watercolour and ink bleed together so the city feels remembered as much as observed. Loose, confident washes describe the architecture without ever tightening into hard detail, while the drenched road catches what little light there is.
