Glistening Rocks
North Devon2019
Description
Glistening Rocks takes in the Ilfracombe coast of North Devon, where sunlit cliffs in olive and ochre tumble down to dark rock and breaking surf. Paul Kenton uses warm, glowing colour across the cliff face to contrast with the cooler greys of rock and spray below, the white of the surf picked out in confident, textured strokes.
Made as part of the 365 project, the painting balances loose, expressive mark-making with a strong sense of structure - the diagonal sweep of the cliff line anchoring the composition as light plays across the stone.
A warm, atmospheric coastal study that captures the particular glow of the North Devon shore in changing light.
