Description

Golden Metropolis captures a rain-soaked Manhattan avenue caught between towering facades of ochre and gold. Ranks of yellow cabs wait at a glistening junction, their lights smearing across the wet asphalt in long reflections, while a lone figure crosses beneath a red umbrella.

Paul Kenton builds the scene in mixed media and metallics, working the paint with a palette knife so the buildings read as thick, textured slabs of colour against a soft, overcast sky. Metallic pigment catches the light across windows and wet surfaces, giving the street a wet-through shimmer that paint alone can't achieve.

At 183 x 244cm on boxed canvas, this is a substantial studio piece for the New York Collection, born from Paul's regular trips to the city to sketch its skyline and street life first-hand.

A one-off original — once sold, this exact painting will not be repeated.
