Inviting Warmth
Chicago2025
Description
Beneath the heavy shadow of an arched underpass, the golden glow of a bar sign cuts through the gloom, its warm light pooling across the road and the parked cars waiting in the dark. Paul Kenton plays deep charcoal silhouettes against luminous washes of amber, the iron structure overhead pressing down while the light below promises shelter and welcome.
There is a real tension here between the cold, cavernous architecture and that small, beckoning warmth — two figures pass beneath the glow, dwarfed by the ironwork above them.
Inviting Warmth is an original painting in watercolour, ink and charcoal on Indian paper, part of Kenton's Artisan Paper Collection and his Street Scene series. It is float mounted and presented in a black frame, ready to hang.
