Description

Nightfall Crossing finds drama in a quiet moment: a red traffic signal glows above a one-way sign as the rust-red girders of an elevated railway fade into dusk. Lit windows flicker in the buildings beyond while a lone figure crosses the wet, shimmering pavement.

Worked in gouache on black paper, Paul Kenton lets warm signal light emerge from cool blue shadow, the darkness of the paper doing the work that black paint usually does. It captures the charged, hushed quality of a street caught between day and night.
