Radio City Shades

Radio City Shades plunges down a deep New York street canyon, sunlight pooling across the road in long ribbons of light and shadow as cabs and a delivery truck nose through the gloom below. High overhead, the vertical 'Radio City' sign blazes, catching the last of the day.

Worked entirely in tonal washes of grey and black, the scene is built from confident, gestural marks that suggest rather than spell out every detail — glass, steel and traffic all reduced to their essential shapes. The effect is filmic and immediate, a street caught between brilliance and dusk.
