Description
Rugged Coastline is a small original study from Paul Kenton's 365 Project, painted in gouache on craft paper during a year in which he committed to creating a plein air artwork every single day. It captures the raw, layered rock face of the North Devon coast, loose expressive strokes of rust, ochre and slate building the cliff's texture above a cool grey-blue sea.
Works from the 365 Project were painted directly outdoors, capturing fleeting light and weather in a single sitting — the immediacy of the medium giving these smaller studies a raw, spontaneous quality distinct from Paul's larger studio paintings.
