Skyline in Contrast

London's skyline sits in stark silhouette against a pale band of dusk, its clustered towers and a distant bridge cut sharp and black where the river glints faintly through. A small moon hovers in a vast, cloud-swept sky, while the foreground rooftops sink into rich, velvety darkness.

Paul Kenton pushes contrast to its limit here, setting the deep saturated blacks of the city against luminous washes of sky and the cold shine of water. Dragged marks and scratched highlights give the dark mass texture and life.

Skyline in Contrast is an original ink on Indian paper painting from the London Collection, part of Kenton's wider Artisan Paper Collection, float mounted with a black frame and signed by the artist.
