Description

High in the Swiss Alps, a narrow valley opens beneath glacier-streaked peaks, their grey-mauve rock catching the last of the day's light. Paul Kenton's gouache captures the scale of the mountains against the intimacy of a single chalet, its orange roof glowing amid dense green pine.

Painted en plein air, 'Swiss Retreat' balances broad, confident washes of colour on the upper slopes with tighter, more deliberate marks around the cabin and treeline — a technique that draws the eye down through the valley to the one sign of human life within it.

Part of the Seascapes and Mountainscapes Collection, this original work is a study in scale and solitude: vast, layered peaks framing a quiet retreat that feels both remote and entirely inviting.
