Description

Taxi Dash puts the viewer on a rain-swept Manhattan street after dark, neon and headlights fracturing across the wet asphalt in blues and reds. A yellow cab idles at the kerb as a silhouetted figure steps in, umbrellas up around them against the downpour.

Streetlights burst into starbursts of white against the black sky, the towers behind dissolving into a haze of lit windows and rain. Kenton's heavy impasto strokes give the whole scene a sense of motion and spray, the city caught mid-storm.

Painted in mixed media and metallics on boxed canvas at a substantial 186 x 247 cm, this is one of the largest and most ambitious New York scenes in the collection - a genuine statement piece.
