Description

Thames Nightfall renders London at the point where day gives way to storm-dark night, the skyline reduced to a near-monochrome silhouette against heavy, bruised cloud. The Shard's outline is just visible on the left, picked out against a wash of grey, charcoal and cool blue.

A pale, warm glow breaks through the centre of the composition, catching in patches of amber and rust amid the surrounding grey - the only real warmth in an otherwise brooding sky. Below, the same tones bleed downward into loosely worked reflections, the river rendered as much through colour as form.

Painted in mixed media and metallics on boxed canvas at a full 183 x 183cm, this square-format original has real scale and presence, its restrained palette putting the emphasis on mood over detail.
