Tower Bridge Downpour
London2025
Description
Tower Bridge Downpour renders one of London's most recognisable landmarks almost entirely dissolved by weather, its turrets softened to shadow as sheets of rain sweep across the river. A tide of umbrella-carrying figures streams along the riverside walk in the foreground, their forms echoed in the wet ground beneath them, while the bridge hangs beyond in a haze of silver and charcoal.
Paul Kenton lets the ink run in long vertical strokes to build the downpour, lamps glowing faintly through the gloom as the only warmth in an otherwise thoroughly drenched scene. It is London at its most atmospheric — relentless, monochrome, and quietly beautiful for it.
An original painting in ink, gouache and charcoal on Indian paper, part of the Artisan Paper Collection, float mounted with a black frame.
