Vanishing Lines
Chicago2025
Description
Vanishing Lines drives the eye straight down an empty road to a single point on the horizon, where a lone figure stands dwarfed by the buildings pressing in from either side. Paul Kenton pushes the perspective hard, dragging and splaying the ink so the painted lane markings seem to accelerate toward the vanishing point, while parked vehicles hunch in kerbside shadow.
Worked in ink on Indian paper, the drawing relies on high contrast and raw, gestural mark-making rather than fine detail — the white of the paper left to carry the daylight, the darkest washes reserved for the deep shadow beneath the buildings. The effect is charged and cinematic, closer to a freeze-frame than a considered study.
This original is part of the Artisan Paper Collection, float mounted with a black frame — a one-off piece rather than a print, so once it sells it will not be reproduced.
