Description

Venice Ablaze is an original mixed media painting capturing the Grand Canal at the height of sunset, the dome of Santa Maria della Salute rising through a sky of burning orange and violet. Paul Kenton builds the scene with energetic palette-knife brushwork, letting the day's last light fracture across the water in cascading gold, crimson and teal.

Painted on boxed canvas at a generous 183 x 91.5cm, the wide format echoes the sweeping grandeur of the canal itself, drawing the eye down the water toward the glowing basilica. Layered impasto marks build the facades of the palazzos on either bank, their windows catching flecks of warm light against the darkening stone.
